ILLUSTRATOR and AUTHOR

FROM FIELD NOTES TO FINISHED ART

FROM FIELD NOTES TO FINISHED ART

I've always believed words and pictures belong together. As both an author and illustrator, I understand how images support a story, reveal character, and help shape a reader's experience. Whether I'm illustrating my own books or collaborating with another writer, my goal is always to serve the story first.

For more than forty years—ever since my high school days— I've helped bring stories to life through illustration.

My work has included children's books, historical subjects, book cover design, comics and comic books, illustrated maps, and publishing graphics.

Whether I'm illustrating a picture book or reconstructing an ancient site, my goal is always the same: to create artwork that serves the story.

Over the years I've written, illustrated, designed, and produced books for both traditional and independent publishing.

Some illustrations begin in the studio. Others begin standing on a windswept hillside in Egypt.

Working alongside archaeological teams at Gebel el-Silsila and other ancient sites taught me to observe carefully, record faithfully, and see the story hidden within the stones.

Those experiences continue to shape my historical illustration and reconstruction work today.

Every stone, artifact, and landscape tells a story. My goal is to translate careful observation into illustrations that help readers understand not only what was discovered, but why it matters.

OBSERVATION SHAPES ILLUSTRATION

OBSERVATION SHAPES ILLUSTRATION

Every project begins with looking closely.

Whether documenting archaeological discoveries, studying historical references, or sketching ideas for a new book, I believe the strongest illustrations grow from careful observation.

The research, fieldwork, and countless hours of drawing all come together in artwork that helps readers experience a story rather than simply read it.

Whether the subject is a children's adventure, an ancient temple, or a book cover design, I begin by understanding the world behind the story before putting pencil to paper.
